6 years and counting

secret.jpg

It’s been six years since I married my husband and I can’t believe that he still likes me.  I am not an easy person to live with but I figure he’s just too lazy to get a divorce and find somebody new. **Correction, he says he’s too busy.**

The kids slept over at my parents last night and I was able to sleep in until 10am this morning.  It was sooo good!  I haven’t been sleeping very much at night since Auge still doesn’t sleep the whole night through.  I put her to bed at 7:30pm and she usually wakes up by 1am and every 2 hours after that so I really don’t get too much sleep.  But now that I had one uninterrupted night of sleep I feel sort of recharged and ready to be a mom again.

Sweater Weather

IMG_0209.JPG

I knit a sweater for a mom in my playgroup’s newborn son and I totally forgot to take glamour shots of of it before I gave it away.  Luckily, I took just one picture of it with button options.  I went with the brown button on top but the fish button was a close second.

I used the chunky knit sweater (Ravelry link) pattern from Simple Knits for Cherished Babies.  It was a pretty simple sweater to make and the one thing that held me up on it was picking up stitches for the edging.  For some reason I hate picking up stitches and it takes me forever to work up the will to do it.  I guess I hate picking up stitches because I never pick up the right number of stitches the first time and then I end up stretching out the edge stitches.  I eventually got the edge right and it turned out pretty awesome.  It is much better than the first time I made this sweater, which was the first sweater I ever knit.

The first sweater that I ever knit was this pattern but it was for my second oldest sister’s baby boy.  I totally didn’t know what I was doing and my stitches were uneven and I totally ignored my gauge.  I’m lucky that it actually turned out ok but just don’t look at the seams, ok?

Out of gas

I’ve been feeling pretty run down today.  It could be because I keep forgetting to take my prenatal vitamins and because Auggie is still waking up frequently at night.  I also I spend the marjority of my days holding her unable to do anything around the house.  She cries or wakes up almost everytime I put her down so it’s been a nightmare trying to do things around the house, cook, and taking care of Grumble.

I was at my wit’s end and so I borrowed a baby swing from my uncle hoping that it would chill her out.  But it didn’t work.  She just kept crying an crying.  Today, I went to Babies ‘r us and got a new swing.  I got the Nature’s Touch Baby Papasan swing and she loves it!  It is a lifesaver.  I should have bought this thing when she was born.  I really hope that she continues to like it so I can get ready for Thanksgiving next week.

I think it swings a little too fast in the slowest setting so I threw a blanket on top of her and let it drag on the ground following a suggestion in the manual but it’s still pretty fast.  Fortunately, Auggie does not mind the speed and can fal asleep or sit content staring at herself in the mirror above the swing.

I fell asleep in the middle of posting this so I’m going to bed.

I had a few things in mind to write about today, but I totally forgot them so I’ll write about some random shit.  I think it’s the lack of sleep getting to me.  My lovely daughter has been waking around 3:30am each morning and staying up to talk.  She just coos and and looks around the dark bedroom and pushes her legs off my chest until I get up and walk around with her.  She ends up talking to me and making me move around with her for an hour.  It’s very cute but really tiring because I will then only have three hours or so until Grumble wakes up and wants me to go downstairs to get him breakfast and turn on the tv.

………………………….

Breastfeeding Auggie has gotten better but my left boob has really forcefull letdown.  I end up with soaked burpclothes and her crying because she doesn’t want to latch on.  So what is up with that?  The breastfeeding resource sites I’ve looked at say that I should do block feeding to reduce the supply and that hasn’t worked.  They also say that it should subside after a few months.  Well, she’s almost 3 months so somebody get the message to my boobs because they aren’t listening to me.

……………………………………..

This is the first year that we’ll be celebrating Christmas at our house with the kids.  We have always gone to Virginia to spend the holidays with my husbands family.  So, I am going crazy thinking of all the things I need to get/do/make to have a great Christmas.

We have no Christmas decorations so I need to get on that.  I wanted to knit stockings but there’s no way I’m going to make four stockings in time for Christmas.  I also wanted to make and advent calendar out of mittens and hats like the one I saw on Garnet Hill but again, I have no time.  Where did my knitting time go?  How do other moms of small children actually knit anything?  I have a homunculous that won’t let me do anything!  It’s such a whiner.

Anyway, both kids are asleep in their own beds right now so I’m going to use this opportunity to sew buttons on a sweater then I’ll have accomplished something other than the laundry today.  I’ll post pictures of it tomorrow.
